Take Care Of Your Heart

I participated in a 5K walk/run activity a few weeks ago and before the event kicked off, a doctor who is head of the cardiology department at one of the local hospitals, gave a 5 min. talk before we began the exercise. She basically asked questions to engage us and then provided the answers. The talk was short but effective and I thought I would share some notes that I took.

· Did you know that heart disease is the #1 killer in the U.S. according to WHO (World Health Organization)?

· Did you know that heart disease has decreased slightly due to health education especially concerning smoking, but is still the #1 killer because of a sedentary lifestyle due to lack of movement/exercise?

· She briefly explained the benefits of simply walking: It increases your blood circulation, you get better bone density, longer life span, and it helps to desire better eating habits. It also prevents or improves diabetes by causing oxygen to be more sensitized in your body causing your body to better respond to insulin (oh I took good notes on my Samsung!) Walking also improves hypertension (high blood pressure) and causes blood sugar levels to go down. She pointed out that walking, eating right and weight loss are important keys to improving one’s cardiovascular system.

I thought this information might be of benefit to you especially if you’re trying to figure out your “why” for creating and maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Remember, it’s not about food, it’s about freedom. Freedom to answer the call on your life without hindrances, freedom to live out your dreams and goals, freedom to walk in your destiny! Freedom to glorify God with your body.
