Not Everything Belongs In Your Future

Just a little tip for those of us who are looking forward to the new year with the hope of promises being fulfilled, dreams realized and overall new resolutions to conquer. What has helped me to move forward each year is a lesson that I’ve learned over the years and that is: Not everything belongs in my future if I’m trying to carve out new habits.

I’ve noticed that when I open up the door or make excuses for something that does not move me towards my goals, that it becomes a slippery downward slope away from my goals. How about you? Do you find that when you excuse one thing, then it becomes an open door to justify other things and before you know it, you’re back to square one or you’re dealing with the same old issue?

As I was writing this blog, a particular bible verse came to me that says, “Press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 3:14). The word pressing denotes a force, a sincerity, a dogmatic attitude to conquer, “requiring quick or immediate attention.” Other words that describes pressing are crucial, important, and critical.

With the risk of sounding alarming, which I don’t mean to do, but the spiritual climate in our world today dictates that we press in, press forward, make it a top priority to cultivate a relationship with Jesus Christ, and, yes, press towards those things that will help us to reach our goals this year. What things that you need to leave behind in 2020 and what do you need to do to press toward your goals, be they spiritual, financially, or physically in terms of your health and emotional wellbeing?

I want to invite you to join me in declaring this affirmation: What needs to be left behind will stay behind. I will no longer try to bring it into my future!

Helping you to discard your past so you can embrace your future,

Annie
