This is the last key strategy in a series of three. If you haven't taken advantage of the first two, I encourage you to do so as I believe that they will help you to move forward on your healthy lifestyle journey. My prayer is that they will help you as much as they helped me and are continuing to help me as this is a journey and it will continue as long as you are on this side of heaven. However, it does get much better as you become stronger in Christ and in the power of His might (Eph. 6:10). If you want more strategies, they are available in my books More Than A Conqueror: Regaining your willpower over food and Journey to Success: Strategies to getting free from destructive eating habits. Both are available on my website including other helpful resources.
III. See in yourself what God sees in you
Last, but the most important, allow yourself to see what God sees in you and believe His assessment of who you are. God says that you are valuable. More valuable than many sparrows (Matt.10:31). God’s word says that you are wonderfully and fearfully made (Ps. 139:14). He made you in His image and His likeness (Genesis 1:27). He has crowned you with glory and honor (Gen. 1:26, Ps. 8:5). He has given you eternal life through His Son (John 3:16). He has adopted you (Eph. 1:5). You are children of God, heirs of God (1 John 3:2, Romans 8: 16-17). You are no longer orphans, you belong to God (John 14:18, 1 Corinth. 6:19). You are a new creature in Christ (2 Corinth. 5:17). You represent Christ. You are the light of the world, a city set on a hill (Matt. 5:14). You are called (2 Peter 1:3). You are chosen (Rev. 17:14). You are now a saint, a servant, a steward and a solider (Romans 1:7, Acts 26:16). You are a witness and a worker (Acts 1:8, Eph. 2:10). Through Jesus Christ you are victorious (1 Corinth. 15:57). You have a glorious future (Romans 8:18). You are a citizen of heaven (Phil. 3:20). You are an ambassador for Jesus Christ (2 Corinth. 5:20). You have a divine nature on the inside of you, those who confess that Jesus is Lord. Actually believe that you can become what God has called you to become, His child with His purpose in your heart (Resource: desiringgod.org)
How you see yourself have a direct impact on your behavior. If you see yourself as royalty, in a humble way, you will remain committed to your course of change. Are you touched by the fullness of who you are in Christ? If you are, you are going to press in for the change. If you are unsure of who you are, you are going to waiver. You will be tempted to go back to your old habits and you will not dig in and fight for the person that you truly are. You are more than the food you eat and the clothes you wear (Matt. 6:25). When you see who you truly are, your choices will change. You become courageous. Your emotions begin to mature where you make better choices. You begin to step into the real you. The list goes on and on. This of course, comes as a result of your mind being renewed through meditating on God's word and through your partnership with the Holy Spirit (Rom. 12:2). I pray that you get a deeper revelation of who you are in Christ so that you can see that you and your family are worth fighting for. Press in for the change this year!
