Retailers Are Doing It Now, Why Shouldn't We

One day after, or even before the end of a major holiday or season, retailers are off and running with promotions for the next holiday or season. I decided to follow suit. With the winter season almost behind us and spring just around the corner, I wanted to get you started on your summer grilling by sharing a wonderful barbecue sauce that I tweaked to make my own. I trust that you will like it as well and make it your favorite!

Summer time is when we are most likely to throw off restraints and just enjoy the fun foods that we typically wouldn't include in our meal planning and kind of go with the flow . Knowing this, I thought I would share a health tip that is important to your health. Summer is a time that we grill the hot dogs, brats, sausages and other summer foods without thinking about about the salt contents of these foods. Knowledge is a powerful tool so I wanted you to be equipped to succeed this summer as you enjoy the summer fun!

Did You Know That?

Did you know that according to the American Heart Association, 1 teaspoon of salt contains 2300mg of salt? Did you also know that, according to the American Heart Association, most Americans eat about 3,400mg of salt per day? The American Heart Association recommends that individuals eat “no more than 2300mg per day, and ideally, less than 1500mg per day for most adults, especially if you’re dealing with high blood pressure, and even cutting back to a 1000mg per day can improve blood pressure and health.”

Did you also know that “Sodium is a mineral that’s essential for life? It’s regulated in the body by your kidneys, and it helps control your body’s fluid balance. It also helps send nerve impulses and affects muscle function.” Including your heart muscle’s function.
