NO GUILT HOLIDAY GRAVY
I didn’t want the holiday to pass without sharing my no guilt holiday gravy recipe! It’s taken from my cookbook, Cooking with Annie: Journey into a new life. This recipe is so easy. You are going to say, “Why didn’t I think of that!” I created this recipe because I wanted to eat clean. In eating clean, you really should stay away from sauces that are made with heavy cream, white flour, lots of butter/fat and high salt which translates into extra unwanted calories and it keeps you craving for more. If you change the way you eat and develop a healthier relationship with food, you can change unhealthy eating cycles. Incorporate this no-guilt gravy into your holiday meal and enjoy knowing that you are not sabotaging your healthy lifestyle goals.
1. Simply take the cooked turkey or chicken broth that you have already cooled, let sat overnight in the refrigerator, or in the freezer for a quicker way (until the fat becomes solid on top), and then skim the fat off the top and discard. Put the broth into a cooking pan on the stove-top as seen above. If you want smoother gravy, strain the broth before adding it to your cooking pan.
2. Simmer to reduce liquid or add a small amount of corn starch or arrow root flour to thicken. Give it a constant stir until you have your desired consistency.
It’s that simple. You have just made yourself a wonderful, healthy, no guilt holiday gravy! Enjoy!

Because the reward for pleasure is so great, you don’t even realize that you are overeating. You are only focused on how good this feeling is that you are experiencing so you just keep on eating, even when you are not hungry. This type of compulsive overeating is a behavioral addiction. "Behavioral addiction is a form of addiction that involves a compulsion to engage in a rewarding non-drug related behavior, despite negative consequences to one’s physical, emotional or financial well- being." If you are experiencing this type of behavior I encourage you to seek professional help.
