Can't Fight the Feeling

Do you feel like food controls your life? That without it, you are just going to die? Is food your constant go to when you are excited? Nervous? Anxious? Sad? Depressed? Or excited? Are you ever at the place in your eating habits where you just got to have it? Does your emotions constantly sabotage your weight loss goals? If you answered yes to most of these questions, you might be an emotional eater.

Here are some clues to help you to recognize emotional eating habits:

  • Emotional hunger is never satisfied when you are full

  • Emotional hunger is not in your stomach. It is something that originates in your head

  • Emotional hunger is more about eating a specific type of food and only that particular piece of food will do

  • Emotional hunger leads to regret, shame and guilt

Emotions are powerful. They can either make or break your eating habits. How do you harness them? Get them to work for you and not against you. Sometimes that’s a hard road to navigate and most of the time our emotions win out. Emotions are indicators. They are helpers but they are not to rule your decisions or actions. Learn how to recognize your emotions so that you are able to express them wisely. Here are some bible verses that will strengthen you and will help you to grow up in your emotions so they don’t rule your life:

Philippians 4:6-7 Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passes all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

1 Corinthian 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

Proverbs 16:32 He that is slow to anger is better than the mighty; and he that rules his spirit than he that taketh a city. (It is through faith and patience that we win the race!)

Galatians 5: 16-24 (this one is pretty long so I will let you search this one out yourself but it is powerful so you don't want to miss it)
