Affection is defined as fondness for, love for, warmth, and devotion. The word of God tells us to set our affections on those things that are above, not on those things below (Colossians 3:2). Some bible translations reads, “Set your mind on things that are above.” What are your affections set on? What is your mind set on? Are you constantly thinking about food? Is food the reason you get up in the morning and the reason you wake up in the middle of the night? Is food the guest of honor at every event you attend?
God knows that if we have affection for something else, it will compete with and weaken our affection for Him. He knows that unless our affections are set on Him, we will not properly seek after Him.
What can you do this week to redirect your affections to the things of God and away from food without making it a yoke and a burden? One thing that has strengthen me, is that, when I see that my affections are getting away from God and back on food, I fast. I find a day where I just turn over the plate and focus on heavenly things. It is good to fast at least one day a week if you are medically able to do so. Fasting stills the flesh and gives you an opportunity to strengthen your inner man.
Write me and tell me about it. I would love to hear from you.
