Tips on clean eating 1 Cor. 6:19-20

What is clean eating? Clean eating is eating foods close to its natural state as possible. This is important if you want to create a healthy lifestyle.

I was recently helping a church member create a healthy environment in her home. She was concerned that her efforts to help her children eat healthy and to lose weight was not very successful. I agreed to go to her home and see if I could help her identify the problem and offer some solutions. After just a few minutes, I could see what the problem was. Because she is a busy mother and wife, not to mention her many other responsibilities, she simply didn’t have the time to cook every meal. Like many busy mothers, she purchased prepackaged meals. Most were the items that her children could just grab and go or prepare themselves. The only problem with this solution was that the prepackaged foods consisted largely of fat, salt and sugar and most of the carbohydrate came from the sugar. She was stunned and was open to tips on what she could do to help her family eat better. Here are a few tips that I shared with her and perhaps, they can benefit you as well.

  • Buy those items that you eat daily or weekly organic to ensure against frequently eating foods with pesticide and other harmful ingredients.

  • Avoid eating prepackaged foods as much as humanly possible.Prepackaged foods have food additives and are usually loaded with salt, sugar and fat as well as other unhealthy ingredients that makes it impossible for you to achieve and maintain healthy eating habits. If the ingredient list is more than 4 to 5 words, especially words that you cannot pronounce, then you want to avoid these types of food.

  • Avoid the heavy sauces, gravy, and cheese to name a few because they are loaded with empty calories which causes weight gain.

  • Instead of making a sweet potato pie, bake your sweet potatoes and enjoy the natural flavors and sugar that is them. You can add a little cinnamon, nutmeg and allspice to enhance the flavor drizzle with a little bit of olive oil and toss in a few raw pecans or walnuts and you have heaven on earth.

  • Make your dressing with wild rice or other 100% wholegrains like quinoa instead of the refined white flour and corn meal. These items will help you to feel full longer so you don’t have to keep going back for more and more.

  • Choose baked meats over fried.
